Ribbed Belts – Procedure for Belt Identification

What ribbed belt do I have? We have prepared a guide to identify ribbed belts. Marking on a broken belt is not always visible.

Following Steps

Previous Step

Do You Need a New Ribbed Belt?

Order your ribbed belt right in our eshop!

Select Poly-V-Belt   or   Consult Your Selection.

Step 2
What Is the Ribbed Belt Profile and Number of Ribs?

Ribbed belts have lengthwise grooves on the inside.
Measure the pitch of the groove, i.e. distance between projections, e.g. 3.54 mm = belt type PK.
Count the number of grooves, i.e. the number of projections - e.g. 7, as shown in the picture.
Width measurement is not usually accurate and is used only to check.
Belt width = groove pitch × number of grooves.

Profile can be found in the eshop.

Step 3
What Is the Ribbed Belt Length?

Measure the length of the belt, e.g. encircle the outer surface with a string.
Then measure the length of the string.

Ribbed Belt Lengths

  • Li – inner length measured by the inside surface
  • La – outer length measured by the outside surface
  • Ld – working length
